When unexpected losses happen, family members have a ton of paperwork, logistics, and belongings to sort through. This, of course, is true for any family following a loss, but when it's unexpected, as it was in this case, there is not much anyone can do to prepare for a simpler transition and division of assets. Here, we have a son whose mother did not leave a will, meaning that this entire process was going to take a while.

Thankfully, he was not living in a family full of difficult and possessive personalities who were going to fight for every last chunk of change. That certainly makes this process less strenuous, but it turns out that a local HOA board member from their mother's community would end up making this process exponentially more challenging than it needed to be.
